McFly To Give Their New Album “Radio:ACTIVE” Away With Mail On Sunday

Given that artists make virtually nothing from every record they release it seems like we’re seeing an end to the conventional album as it becomes more of a promotional item used to advertise in bands tours and merchandise. McFly are following suit and are giving their new album away for free with the Mail On Sunday.
The move comes after Prince did a similar thing last year - which resulted in a sellout tour.
Singer Tom Fletcher said:
“We get to put it into almost three million homes, which is an incredible opportunity for us.
“Hopefully the three million people will all enjoy the music and they’ll decide to see us when we go on tour.”
It’s a shrewd business move given that McFly are one of the UK’s better known bands and probably would have shifted millions of albums as it is.
Never-the-less it’s just more proof the record industry is dying (or changing depending on your level of optimism).
As for their new single - well it’s not very good.
I suppose the bridge is ok-ish.

lol i just got given the album by my dad after he got it free and im listening to it as we speak. it seems very same same but thats ok because tbh, its only McFly, right? so you listen to it but its not like you’re gonna go out and buy tickets for their tour. they’re a good example of the peoples music. we can all listen to it without gagging but we wouldnt go out especially to buy it. but it sounds ok to me =]
and seeing as its free, i think its a damn good album ;]
and some songs are quite catchy =D

Free things are always the best Jenny. I actually didn’t realise it was out today. I dunno whether I want to go and hunt down a copy of the album or not.

omg, their new album is amazing, what I like is how they have really come on, this is by far their best album. Not to mention they are one of the best acts I have seen live. Amazing! Their voices are so much bterr now aswell.
I especiallty like pov, corrupted and the last song. The last song, omg I had shivers. Musically the best song they have done.

i absolutely ove the new album, got it put onto my i-pod the day i got it, and love all the songs.
wonderfully catchy and inspiring.
some of them inspired me to change things in my life.
