Man is the only real enemy we have. Remove Man from the scene, and the root cause of hunger and overwork is abolished for ever. Man is the only creature that consumes without producing. He does not give milk, he does not lay eggs, he is too weak to pull the plough, he cannot run fast enough to catch rabbits. Yet he is lord of all the animals. He sets them to work, he gives back to them the bare minimum that will prevent them from starving, and the rest he keeps for himself.

E3 2008 Top 5 Anticipated Announcements

I’ve already talked about the games that I think are going to be shown at E3 2008, but which ones am I most excited about? Sit back while I take you through my Top 5.

  • Animal Crossing Wii/Punch Out Wii: I already predicted that we’d see an Animal Crossing Wii announced at E3 and that has pretty much been confirmed by ONM magazine and N-Gamer. Alongside the confirmation of Animal Crossing Wii comes the news of a new Punch Out game coming to the Wii that will work with the remote, nunchuk and balance board. I’m keen to see if the game retains it’s initial style and gameplay mechanics. Being a big fan of the Punch Out series I’m curious to see what this is going to bring that’s new to the formula - seeing as Wii Sports’ boxing game was essentially Punch Out anyway.
  • Fallout 3: I think Bethesda has done a brilliant job with Fallout 3 so far because still no one knows barely anything about it. I think everyone is hoping that E3 is going to be the time when are lot of Fallout 3 details are shown and if that’s going to be the case then I’m totally hyped about it. Word on the street is that Fallout 3 is almost “Oblivion like” in terms of scope and has over 10,000 different potential endings. Geez.
  • Resistance 2: I actually never got a chance to play the original Resistance but from what I heard it was a pretty solid first person shooter. Resistance 2 sets to build on all that and throw in a seperate online co-op mode and 60 man multiplayer. I’m interested to hear more from Insomniac about how the 60 man multiplayer will work and also I’m eager to get some more info on the co-op mode. I’m hoping Insomniac are going to announce some kind of new Ratchet & Clank game too because I’ve become quite a fan of that series but I think their attention will be on Resistance for now.
  • Banjo Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts: This game doesn’t quite look like the Banjo Kazooie sequel I always wanted but it still looks awesome to say the least. First things first I’m interested to know if this game has motion controls but once over that hurdle it will be interesting to see how exactly this “create a vehicle” gameplay mechanic will be incorporated into a Banjo game. Graphically the game is looking nice but the gameplay is yet to convince me. I’m sure a strong E3 showing will be able to change that.
  • Resident Evil 5: I loved Resident Evil4. Like, it’s literally one of my favourite games of all time and if Resident Evil 5 shapes up to be more of the same but with better presentation and (is this possible?) better story telling then I’d literally pay like £100 for the game. Seriously I would. I’m a relative newcomer to the Resident Evil story but it’s already captivated me and I can’t wait to see who and what pops up in Resident Evil 5. Plus, it seems likely that Capcom are going to show off their online co-op mode for Resident Evil 5 this E3. *creams*

To tell you the truth: while these are my 5 most anticipated I’d probably trade them all (minus Resident Evil 5 maybe) for a Shenmue 3 announcement. I know, I know, it’s not going to happen. I can still hope though right?

Other honourable mentions would be: Mirrors Edge, Street Fighter 4, Soul Calibur 4, Killzone 2, Little Big Planet, Playstation Home and any PSN, XBOX Live Arcade and WiiWare announcements.
