Is Soul Calibur IV A Bit Pervey?
Haha this is a hilarious one: I’m hearing people talk about Soul Calibur IV as if it’s a little uncomfortable to play. On the GiantBomb.com podcast yesterday Ryan Davis described playing the game as “uncomfortable” and not because of it’s gameplay (which he stated “it plays like Soul Calibur should”). Ryan was of course referring to the outlandish characters and their scale on the perve-o-meter. Given that I’ve always considered Soul Calibur a pervey game I haven’t thought much of it. Until now.
So decide for yourselves, based on the following female characters that are present in the game, is Soul Calibur IV a bit pervey?
Cassandra Alexandra in Soul Calibur IV
Ivy Valentine in Soul Calibur IV
Seong Mi-Na in Soul Calibur IV
Sophitia Alexandra in Soul Calibur IV

There were tons more characters I could have put here. Look, I’m not going to pass judgement, all I’m going to say is that the artwork is fucking good - pervey or not.

It is degrading but it is still fictional. The game is intended for entertainment so I don’t necessarily see why things like this compromise women in the real world.

Pfft… The male characters get it just as bad in the game. If they aren’t half naked muscle men then they’re some “unrealistic” anime-looking hearthrob.
I find it interesting that the returning characters keep their skanky outfits from previous releases, but the new female character (Hilde) has more skin covered than any character ever. She’s a badass as well.

yes…they are huge. and they make me feel funny things. but it’s the current undisputed heavyweight contender. maybe 50% of that weight is in boobs, but it’s a great game nonetheless. just create a character that reflects what you want to see, i mean its every guys fantasy to see them this huge. so, you ladies out there start building the alpha male. trust me…it makes me feel just as “used” to know that chicks dig hunks.

I don’t consider playing Conan or God of War uncomfortable and they are practically naked. So what’s the big deal? I would much rather stare at something appealing than Jane Doe.

Are you serious?!
You can’t seriously believe that because a couple of characters have large breasts and skin tight clothing that the entire world is degrading all women. It is a video game get over yourself. There are tons of games with attractive male lead characters, and all of the male character’s clothing can be damaged and/or broken just like the female’s clothing in SCIV. So again what’s the big deal?
You want to talk about ridiculously and lack of respect how about professional girl gamers in opposition to guy gamers. Just because girls are girls they get sponsorships. Half of sponsored female gamers aren’t really that great either and don’t know shit when it comes to anything outside of Halo, Unreal or WoW.
So with that said why do you think that they are sponsored…right! Because they are females and sex sells.

I’m not a prude in any way, but I have to agree that this game makes me feel a bit uncomfortable when playing it… They do get progressively bigger with every Soul Calibur installment… I think they crossed the line into outright soft porn on this one. It just makes me think that these artists (while talented) are quite lonely and have never seen a naked woman in real life. You can make them sexy without resorting to this kind of stuff. Also, for a game as awesome as Soul Calibur, they don’t need the sex to sell it - the game is fighting perfection, so it doesn’t need to resort to *ahem* Dead or Alive tactics to cover up bad game-play.

I can agree that they are getting bigger each new version, but what the hell? Its just a game, and some of the men are overdone too. But Ivy crossed the line. She looks like a stripper, or someone into dominatrix. She’s going to use that whip on her lover. LOL! But seriously, its a tight game and really attractive to look at.

Well, its abvious that any warrior woman could never fight with breasts that massive…like those are HUGE…… not that boobs are bad, cuz they’re def sweet, but I don’t think they needed to be THAT BIG, but fck w/e it is a video game ppl!

As a girl gamer and a fan of the Soul Caliber series, I have to say that these characters make me uncomfortable enough not to buy the game… I’m sure there’s more girl gamers who have done the same but given how few we are to so many men who want to combine gaming and soft porn, I don’t think we’re gonna be making a dent on their sales.
