Anberlin To Release “The Feel Good Drag” As First Single From New Surrender

“But we’ve heard The Feel Good Drag before!” - I hear you scream. And you’d be correct because The Feel Good Drag was one of the tracks on Never Take Friendship Personal. That’s right - the latest Anberlin single is two albums old. I’m not quite sure what the record label/band are thinking of here but if it’s a label decision, it tells me they don’t have much faith in the bands new material which is a bit worrying.
All the same - if the band were to release an old song you would have thought they would have picked one of the better ones. Now don’t get me wrong - I love The Feel Good Drag, but wouldn’t this have been a better track:
Yes that footage was from Breakfast At Tiffany’s. I think I made my point.
The Feel Good Drag hits American radio next month.

actually, anberlin has already showcased two song’s that are definetly “single worthy” as you put it (disappear, Breaking), but the feel good drag is already a hit on alt nation for sirius, so it will do just fine.

Disappear certainly isn’t single worthy to me and I’ve only heard Breaking live. I have faith in the band no doubt just find it odd that they are re-releasing one of the weaker tracks off NTFP.

Yes, but this sounds absolutely nothing at all like the original, so I think it is a great move. And this song kicks butt. It’s upbeat and that’s what fans want now a days.

You’ve got to be joking!
The Feel Good Drag is an amazing song and it is most definitely a very single-worthy song.
However, as to the point that TYLER made. It doesn’t too different from the original. With the exception of “We can stay for a while, MY boyfriend’s gone” and the outro, the song is pretty much the same. They most-likely re-released the song because they are just now starting to get huge. As a long time fan of anberlin, I have no problem seeing this song finally get the recognition that it deserved the first time around.
I love anberlin and have been with them from the beginning-

I’m not saying it’s not a good song - I’m just saying if they were going to rerelease ANYTHING you’d think it would be Paperthin Hymn or anything other than The Feel Good Drag which in my personal opinion is one of the weaker tracks of NTFP.
I’ll reserve judgement until I hear it as a part of the new album and the actual song itself however.

A few things with this move. For those who don’t know, they were pretty much forced into the studio to record this fourth CD by Universal Republic. They released Cities last February 2007 and then Universal wanted a CD when they signed with them in August 2007. Personally, (and I don’t want to think this) it seems as if they couldn’t come up with that many tracks or that the label wanted this track on the new CD. I think the original is a great track with a raw feel to it, this one sounds a little too polished (new producer).
In regards to giving the fans what they want, take a gander over at their Myspace page where they’re currently getting trashed by their fans for “going radio” and re-recording a great track.
I hope I’m wrong but this seems rushed and I’m a little nervous about it. I don’t think they can ever top NTFP. We shall see.

Anberlin wrote 30+ songs for cities but obviously couldn’t use them all. I like (the) “feel good drag”. It’s a good song. Odd how they drop the ‘the’ from the title. I think in the next year or so Anberlin is going to be a household name for years to come. Along the lines of Pearl Jam and STP.
